Café and restaurant reels are the most saved and the least used. You save one at midnight, and three weeks later you're in that part of town with no idea what it was called.
The fix is to keep the place, not just the reel, somewhere you'll look when you're deciding where to go.
1. Get the name and area while you're watching
The name is usually in the location tag above the caption, in the caption itself, or said in the voiceover. If it isn't, the comments almost always have someone asking "where is this?", and the creator's reply. Note the neighbourhood too: "the café in Indiranagar" is far easier to find again than a name you half remember.
2. Save it on a map
Search the place in Google Maps and tap Save. Put it in a list such as Want to go, or make your own ("Cafés", "Date night", "Goa trip"). Your saved places show up on the map, so the next time you're nearby you'll see them. You can share a list with friends when you're planning together.
3. Keep the reel in a Places collection
The reel is still useful for what to order and when to go. Press and hold the bookmark icon and add it to a collection called Places, or one per city if you travel.
4. Or send it to Gugu
Share the reel with Gugu in your Instagram messages. It reads the caption and listens to the voiceover, files the café, restaurant or shop under Places in your stash, with the city and area, and what to order, when the reel mentions them. A reel listing ten places becomes ten finds you can search and tick off once you've been.
Make the list work for you
- Look before you go out. Open your list when you're picking a place, not only when you're saving one.
- Mark what you've tried, and add one line on how it was. Next time you'll know what to recommend.
- Clear out closures. Places shut. If a saved spot has closed, delete it so the list stays worth trusting.
