How to find the song from an Instagram reel

Updated 20 October 2026

A song stuck in your head from a reel is easy to name if you know where to look. Try these in order; the first one usually works.

1. Tap the audio at the bottom of the reel

If the creator added a track, its name and artist sit at the bottom left of the reel. Tap it to open the audio page, which shows the song and every other reel that uses it. You can save the audio there too, so you'll find it again.

2. If it says "Original audio"

"Original audio" means the creator uploaded the sound themselves: their own voice, a remix, or a song they didn't tag. Tapping it won't tell you the track. Check the caption first, then the comments: someone has almost always asked "song?", and the creator or another viewer has usually answered.

3. Let your phone listen

On an iPhone, add the Shazam Music Recognition control to Control Center (edit Control Center and search for it), play the reel through the speaker, then tap the Shazam icon. On Android, install the Shazam app, or use the Google app's Search a song button while the reel plays. If your phone can't listen to itself, play the reel on one device and listen with another.

This works for released songs. A remix, a sped-up edit or someone humming may not match anything.

4. Search the lyrics

If you can make out a line, search for it in quotes with the word "lyrics". Even a half-remembered line is often enough.

Don't lose it again

  • Add it to a playlist straight away in whatever app you listen with. A song you've named but not saved is gone again by tomorrow.
  • Song list reels are different. "Songs for a late-night drive" reels name ten tracks at once. Send one to Gugu and each song it recommends becomes its own find under Music in your stash, with the artist, so you can work through them later.
